In this post, we’re looking into the inner workings of the new Flex Gadgets. In my previous post, I explained the gadgetDataHost, and in this post, we’ll take a look at the gadgets themselves.

Looking at any PMF gadget, we start off with preferences. These preferences also apply to the Flex gadgets, but they are a little high level then with the non-Flex gadgets. These preferences create a base set of data for the Flex gadget to use. Some of the Flex gadgets include a new (as of 5.2.1) filter detail option titled ‘Multi-select single display’. Looking at this detail option with a measure, it would allow multiple measures to be retrieved, but sets a preference for a default. The Flex gadgets use this when the gadget is only able to display one measure at a time. By retrieving multiple measures’ data simultaneously, we can store that data in the Flex gadget, and using the standard menu in our Flex gadgets, the display can be instantly changed to another measure. This also allows us to use the Flex data animation that is one of the primary benefits of using Flex.

Feel free to reply to this post with any requests for information about the new Flex gadgets.

Thank you all for being such supportive customers,
