Can PMF cater for weighting other than for measures and objectives i.e. dimensions?

There is a capability in PMF but before describing it we're going to belabor a point for intellectual clarity.

"Weighting dimensions" as a concept doesn't really make sense. PMX data comes from measures. You can't weight CHICAGO but you can weight the portion of a measure's data assigned to Chicago (and which would roll up under US and MIDWEST)

The only way to apply weighting in PMF is to the data from a measure.

There are three kinds of data coming from a measure:

• An actual.
  
• A target (whether plan, benchmark, stretch, or forecast).
  
• A percent reached.
  

This being said, now we can tell you there is a capability in PMF to allow you to vary measure weighting to objectives dimensionally. It works by allowing you to vary the weight of measures to objectives to a scorecard.

In V5.1.0 it's still a bit tedious to set up. You have to add some extra master files and tables to the framework. However, it is possible to set up and get working.

The other thing to note about this is it requires maintenance. If you want to do things this way, you will need to set up dimensional weights every year, on every dimension where you want them applied. We have customers using the capability but they have dedicated people to maintain it. It does require planning and decision making.
