Information Builders' Performance Management Framework (PMF) 5.3.1 HF5 is Generally Available.

New Capabilities in PMF 5.3.1:
PMF 5.3.1 is substantially improved and upgraded:

  • Analytical Dashboards: Any PMF Dashboard can combine HTML5 Gadgets with Broadcast capability; transforming it into an Analytical tool. You can click on pie segments, bars, or treemap boxes to automatically drill all content on the dashboard. Drills carry forward, allowing literally billions of combinations of drills. Clicking any Gadget Back icon steps you backward through your analytical path.
  • Mobile capabilities: PMF gives you the ability to quickly assemble Dashboards that can be deployed to any device. PMF's dashboards allow gesture-based interaction dynamically, as appropriate for every device, and scale Gadget content to perfectly fit each device.
  • Content is instantly mobile: Turn any PMF Dashboard or other PMF-managed content into a WebFOCUS Mobile Favorite with one click, right from PMF's Today page or from inside PMF content.
  • PMF supports all major modern browsers - you can now use Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer in all of PMF.
  • New touch-sensitive animated HTML5 gadgets are dynamic and animate with data on display or parametric changes. These Gadgets allow dynamic filtering with immediate response, since they take advantage of an in-built Dashboard Data Controller. These Gadgets work great from Mobile browsers, from the Information Builders Mobile Faves app for iOS, and from the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari browsers.
  • New Analysis Designer Gadget allows full ad hoc PMF requests on any dashboard; its new Slicers can broadcast your selections to all other Gadgets, allowing thousands of combinations.
  • Set up custom parameters to be passed to your Gadgets, allowing you to configure components for inclusion from any external system without needing to code a procedure.
  • Directly set up new Grid Gadgets based on Analysis Designer templates, without coding. This gives you no-code access to tens of thousands of potential Gadgets.
  • New revamped and simplified user interface base, more compliant with Web standards.
  • New slicker Dimension panel allows for considerably more flexible operation.
  • Key-based Dimension matching allows for greater data resiliency when source data changes or Dimension structure changes.
  • Ability to link Content to Scorecards, allowing you to control who sees what.
  • Ability to "split" PMF's reporting cube from core transactional PMF, allowing you to create accelerated partitions for even faster reporting.
  • Added support for Teradata, MySQL and Information Builders' HyperStage.
  • ... and hundreds More.

For more information on new capabilities, please see the PMF 5.3.1 New Features and PMF 5.3.1 Release Notes documentation that ship with PMF, and the PMF 5.3 documentation available on documentation.informationbuilders.com.

Limitations to Note
On WebFOCUS 8.0.01 and 8.0.02, PMF 5.3.1 HF5 does not yet support:

  • Full Multi-tenancy and SaaS operation; this awaits some production WebFOCUS capabilities for Multi-Tenancy support.
  • Creation of PMF Gadgets from WebFOCUS MR; this awaits production WebFOCUS capabilities to support PMF Gadget Creation in WebFOCUS 8.0.01.
  • IE9 Standards Mode on the Author and Manage tabs. Note that IE Standards Mode is now fully supported by the Business Intelligence Portal (BIP) in Release 8.0.01 and higher. For those needing to use the Author and Manage tabs, please either use MS IE8 (Microsoft Internet Explorer v8), Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome; if you must use MS IE9 (Microsoft Internet Explorer v9), you can manually switch the browser mode to Quirks in Developer mode; Press F12 to bring up the developer window, then Alt+Q to enable Quirks mode. You can close the developer mode window once this is done. This will need to be done with each new browser session. Support for IE9 standards mode on the Author and Manage tabs will be available in PMF 5.3.2.

Installation
PMF 5.3.1 HF5 is certified for operation with WebFOCUS Releases 7.6.11 and above, including WebFOCUS 8.0.01. PMF will not be certified to run with any Limited Release version of WebFOCUS 8.0.00, as these are not Generally Available releases. Information on how to install and use PMF can be found in the PMF Installation and Configuration Guide, which is being updated with WebFOCUS 8.0.01 and higher support.

Upgrades
If you have a previous version of PMF installed, the PMF Installer will automatically upgrade PMF to the latest version; migration is completed the first time an administrator logs on to PMF.
Notes:
1. We strongly recommend you back up any custom PMF demo data marts in your RDBMS tools before migrating them to PMF 5.3.1 HF5.
2. If you have PMF installed in a multi-tier configuration, please remember to run the installation separately for your Web server and WebFOCUS server machines.
