Why aren't hot fixes zipped up?
A question for anyone from IBI -- why aren't hot fixes zipped into a single download file on Tech Support? I'm looking to download Hotfix 4 and it's about 20 files.

Always have a devil of a time getting stuff down off of Tech Support.

Thanks for your question.

Note that the WebFOCUS 8 package for PMF is just one file - the installer. There are two icons and a text file additionally that you don't need unless you really want them. We did this because the install technology used for WebFOCUS 8 packages has a "single file option," and we took advantage of that for customer convenience.

The WebFOCUS 77 install package for PMF has a LOT of separate files and we know this can be frustrating to some. Although we're regretful about this, the technology behind the WebFOCUS 77 package installer for PMF doesn't have a "single file option."

Yes, we considered ZIPping up the files into a single archive, and actually did this at one point, but we received complaints because not all customers have ZIP utilities. Almost everyone on Windows has this, and we take it for granted. But not every distrib of Unix or Linux have ZIP. They do have TAR, but then Windows users would be left out. And since there are already two separate links for downloading PMF, it was felt strongly that having 4 would just make things even more confusing for people.

So here we are.

Since PMF installs on Windows, Unix and Linux, we had to consider their needs. We have far more customers on these than on Windows.

Thanks again
