I have a report that generates say 5 lines. is there a way to generate 5 reports with 1 line each instead of 1 report with 5 lines.

What I am trying to do is instead of generating a report with 5 lines I want to generate 5 reports using a template

so say

TABLE FILE TEST
BY RECORDID
HEADING
"TEST REPORT"
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K
END

PRODUCES 1 EXCEL FILE

Test Report
1
2
3
4
5

I want 5 EXCEL files (not 5 tabs) which I could do a TOC on.

Test Report
1

Test Report
2

Test Report
3

Test Report
4

Test Report
5

I would do that by using Report Caster and the BURST function.

Burst would give five reports, but how would a TOC be generated?

I'd be curious, what is the business need here?

Thanks.

The burst would only work if the records were going to say differant people. I was just syaing if i wanted them on differant tabs I would do a TOC.

The reason for this is for my QC department. We have what we call an Non-Conformance system and when ever we get bad or problem material from a vendor we create an entry. What we are trying to do is send them an Excel form for each entry. So say for this batch there is 5 problems. Each problem will get its own excel file (generated from webfocus) using a template becuase it is a predesigned for in excel. becuase this is 5 problems they need to be seperated as each one will be dealt with seperatly.

Wilky

you can set up a dynamic burst list based upon your first by field for let's say the country (from CAR) and your mailadres could be the same for all these countries.
You will get five separate reports (sheets).

See this code

-* File DynamicMail.fex
-*APP HOLD SERVERNAME
SET TITLES = OFF
SET BYDISPLAY = ON
SET HOLDLIST = PRINTONLY
DEFINE FILE CAR
EMAIL_ADDR/A40 =  'yourmail@def.com';
END
TABLE FILE CAR
BY COUNTRY
BY EMAIL_ADDR
ON TABLE HOLD AS CAR_DC
END
-*And in procedure I have written this code:
SET ASNAMES = ON
TABLE FILE CAR_DC
PRINT
COUNTRY AS 'VALUE'
EMAIL_ADDR AS 'DEST'
ON TABLE PCHOLD
END

This generates the dynamic maillist

Then create your report in EXCEL with the country as by field and RC will send you the 5 spreadsheets.

Actually you can set the burst on option then have the 'burst values' each sent to the same place but will show as different files. Problem would be if you did more than one vendor at a time. I'm assuming here you want idividual responses from the vendors is why the QC doesn't want a combined report of multiple sheets.

I am already bursting the report based on the vendor. There might be 10-20 vendors per batch being processed.
