I have generated receipts and letters in webfocus. These receipts and letters involve a lot of formatting and tedious work to make them appear correctly. They are currently sorted by id and gift number, but now I am asked to sort them in ABC order. When I change the sort the entire format is ignored. How can I change my sort without messing up my formats?

Do have specific styling referencing columns in your stylesheet?...normally just changing a sort field would not effect formatting.

The fact that you're referencing your report columns in the style-sheet with positional names (N7, N4 etc.) is the reason that the styling is not working - since you added new BY statements, all the positional names would have to be changed. The easier thing to do would be to use the real column names, and when you specify a report column more than once (e.g. in a BY NOPRINT and as a column) simply use field_name(*) to refer to the column (e.g. TYPE=DATA, COLUMN=LAST_NAME(*), SIZE=10, $ The * will style all columns with the name LAST_NAME.

Tracie, this should be no problem, don't forget to change the PAGE-BREAK line as well.

I notice that there is a double quote missing before the ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF.

Other than that I can see nothing untoward at all.
