The answer is simply: Yes, but how to do this depends on the WF release you are using. In 5.2.3 the LDAP authentication option is available out-of-the-box, and you can configure it using "WebFOCUS LDAP Configuration" wizard (I never tried to use this option). In all of the releases, there is a possibility to write "Custom Security Exit" which allows to authenticate users by any external system, including LDAP. Security exits are described in the "WebFOCUS Security and Administration" manual.
