[CLOSED] Users experiencing problems installing Dev Studio 7.6.4
We have two users who are both experiencing dll registration errors when attempting to install Dev Studio 7.6.4.

There errors are:

"DllRegisterServer in progdlg.dll failed. Return code was 0x80040154"

and:

"C:\ibi\DevStudio76\tin\progclg.dll;C:',ibi\DevStudio76\bin\befocus.dll;C:\ibi\DevStudio76\bin\comctamigrator.dll; failed to register."

The installation otherwise appears to go forward and installs with a successful message. However when they attempt to start the app, it crashes.

This is the reported problem from our user:

<
The error that is being received is a registration error for 3 DLL's. See attachments for the specific error generated. I have tried to manually register one of these DLL's and have also included the specific registration error for that DLL.

The installation for Dev Studio completes with a successful message, however, when we try to load Dev Studio it is non-functional during the first load. If we quite the app and try to load it again a few windows flash on the screen and then the app exits without any message.>>

Any insight would be appreciated.

Regards,

Deborah Sullivan / Fidelity

I would suggest doing a search in your favourite search engine for DllRegisterServer failed Return code was 0x80040154

It may be a security issue ?

I'm assuming that there no License Issue... Is Chris Caplin (Spelling?) still onsite there? He should be able to assist in this...

You do not say what you are trying to install on.

XP,Vista,Windows 7?

In most cases issues fall into one of a few areas.

1. To install Dev Studio you must have local admin rights on the machine that it is being installed on.
(make sure that you have local admin rights, try to remove the dev studio and clean the registry and retry)

2. You are trying to do an install on a machine where another version of Dev Studio is already installed.
(do not install upgrade or try to remove the dev studio and clean the registry and retry)

3. You are trying to install on a 64 bit version of the operating system
(this should not normally be an issue as the op sys should realize it is 32 bit and install appropriately)

Any conbination of the above can combine to cause problems.

Also, has this version/set of binaries been used successfully by other users.
If not, corrupt files may be an issue.

You do not need to reinstall the product if this is a security issue.
There is a small bat-file in the bin directory of DevStudio that will do the dll registration for you. It is called thisfoci.bat. If you run this file it will try to register the dll's that need to be registered. You can also use it to see if this produces the same error messages.

Hello, I am the person on whose behalf Deborah initially posted.

I have verified that the users seeing this installation issue have Local Admin rights on their systems.

They are installing on Windows XP-32 bit. There is no previous version of Dev Studio that has been installed on their systems.

I have not had the users execute the bat file mentioned just above, but will do that today and report back with the results.
