Is there anyone out there using Virtual Folders in the Projects area of Dev Studio 5.2.1?
We are just starting to play around with it, but we are running into a problem. I have created a virtual folder for Excel files, and I am able to open those files from within Dev Studio. My coworker is not able to open them from within the virtual folder. When she double clicks on a file, it asks her if she's sure she wants to remove the file from the project. When she right clicks the file, her only options are to Remove, Delete, Copy, Rename. Another coworker is able to access the files just fine. We all have the same rights to the server, to the application, to the files, etc.
Also, someone else created a Virtual folder for stylesheets, and she was able to open them initially, but not anymore. I opened a ticket with IBI, but so far they have not been able to figure this out for us.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Jen

Susannah -
Two possibilities about your friend's setup.

1. is she using Maintain Development Environment or the report development shell? If MDE, the ability to open is not supported, but she can easily switch over to the reporting side and open the file.

2. Believe it or not, the explorer inside DevStudio is Windows Explorer. So if she's got Open as a verb on a right-click there for Excel files, she'll get it in DevStudio. If however she doesn't have Excel installed and/or doesn't have ability to Open an Excel file from Windows Explorer, she won't be able to do it from inside DevStudio.

Hope these notes help

We are not using Maintain, and she does have the ability to open Excel files from within Windows Explorer. We figured out the stylesheet problem, we just needed to add .STY as a registered extension to open with Notepad. But the Excel problem is curious, because obviously, a .XLS file is already registered to open with Excel.
We're stumped.
