I am gathering requirements and an understanding for a new project. This involves migration of a WebFOCUS-based system to one that is Java-based.

I have a basic question to try to filter my understanding of Java, which I have never worked with before. To start with, a fundamental concept how is a file - i.e., the car file in WebFOCUS - described in Java?

For example, if I have a master file description in WebFOCUS, is there an equivalent construct in Java?
I would appreciate any advice or suggested direction for my understanding and knowledge acquisition.

Thank you.
