I see there are discussions on 8.0 product and I know there are many, many downloads. But I have not seen any discussion on the new portal.

What do you think about it? Have you had a chance to try it out yet ?

Hi Brian,

I haven't implemented a brand new portal. I have only converted our existing dashboards into portals so I didn’t see a huge difference. I do like the new modern look and feel of the portals.

A couple of things I like:

1. I like the how you can implement a custom portal for the Welcome page. This allows us to implement a lot of our own branding to our customers.
2. The ability to allow users to customize their own portal with their own reports. We can pretty much give them a blank canvas and they can drag out what ever reports they want to see.

A couple of things I would like to see improved:

1. Allow simulated data option in the Portal editor. If you have an HTML with a lot of controls that grab data, the portal editor drags. I have to turn that on in Developer Studio when I am editing certain HTML pages, otherwise DS will lock up on me.
2. The ability for users to resize panels in a portal. It’s a challenge for me to resize them. You have to get your cursor on the right spot to do this. It should be simpler.
3. I would like to ability to edit a portal when I am actually in view mode of the portal.

Regarding the improvements you suggest:
Item number 1, we have implemented a feature to not run reports (simulated data is not possible in this scenario) in 8.1 due out in Q4. QA is currently testing it and once done we will evaluate whether or not we can put it into the 8.0.04 Service Pack release.

Item 2: I agree this is difficult. Did you open a case with support on this.

Item 3: When in the designer you can minimize most of the designer UI. What exactly is your use case here? Is the transition to the designer too difficult (meaning too may clicks, slow, etc.) or is it that you want to push changes you made in your personal portal back to everyone?

2. No I haven't opened a case, but I certainly can.
3. Too many clicks, I have seen slowness or lockups. It would just be a nice to have. If I run a portal and see something I want to change I have to close it and then click edit to make changes. Nice to have some sort of Edit mode without having to close it.
