AFP to PDF Conversion?
Greetings Focal Point,

I have a z/OS AFP (Advanced Function Printing) file that I'd like to make available on my WebFOCUS web application.

If I can convert the file to PDF format, my partners can then open the file in Internet Explorer/Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Has anyone converted an AFP file to another format?

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,
Dave

Spoke to the Product Manager, her response was: Don't know the answer but I suggest doing a search on www.google.com might find an answer. I don't feel that this is a question related to WF product functionality as AFP is not a file type WebFOCUS specifically creates or reads (that we know of anyway).

Sorry we can't be of more help, David. Maybe a customer has more information for you.

Hi Monica,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Yes, based on my research, it looks like AFP is not a format WebFOCUS can read.

Our shop has a web based system/application called Xact/Xnet from Systemware.

Xact/Xnet can convert an AFP file to PDF format.

We are calling the Xact/Xnet application from our WebFOCUS application. (WF is the launch page, Xact/Xnet is the resultant web page [PDF report].)

This looks promising, so I think we are all set.

This has been the first time I've called another non-WF web app, from my WF app. Very interesting concept. From my users point of view, they are launching reports and viewing reports the same way. Under the covers, the WF app is switching the source of the underlying reports.

Dave

Hi David.

Thanks so much for sharing this with the community.

Ideally, this is not only a forum for asking questions but also for sharing suggestions like yours.

Hopefully, now your suggestion might give other community members the idea of calling non-WF apps from WebFOCUS.

Cheers,

Monica
