Is your FOCUS on the MVS or USS side of Z/OS?. If it is on USS it should be easy even though I am not aware of any tools.

Not really familiar with Z/OS but I've done a number of platform conversion over the years including VAX to UNIX, VMS, to TSO etc. From a reporting language perspective it shouldn't be much of a problem at all. The biggest issues are OS specific commands and possibly menuing/UI type stuff - and even these shouldn't be showstoppers. That's always been one of FOCUS's great strengths is it's cross platform compatability.

As far as tools - I just used a plain old editor - thats all that was needed.

You probably have your fex stored in a Partitioned Data Set if using mainframe FOCUS. Moving them to an ASCII platform you'll have to move and rename to add the '.fex' extension. We had issues with unfmt as we had fields with imbedded packed data, never worked in the WebFOCUS ascii world as the translation to ASCII occurred before the unfmt (our data is still on the z/OS system in DB2. Pretty much though most programs 'worked out of the box' once moved and named.

Hi,

Currently the focus application is installed on Mainframes Z/os. And we were looking at an option to Migrate from Mainframes to Unix Server.

But now the priorities have been changed and we are looking at other option that is migraing FOCUS from Mainframes(Z/os) to AS/400. If some one can let me know how it can be achived it would be helpful. IF someone has worked on this kind of project who can share experiences is appretiated.

Thank you in advance

Thanks

Hi Sandesh,

I ran some search on Information Builders' online manual as well as documents and came to the understanding that this should be an issue to be handled by a case with Customer Support Services as we will need to exam in much more details on your system, application settings, etc. You may either call at 1-800-736-6130, or access the online system InfoResponse at http://techsupport.ibi.com. Here is a list of information to be ready when you call: http://techsupport.ibi.com/before_you_call.jsp.

The following document from my search may be of interest as well:

AS400:Migrate MVS FOCUS DBs to AS/400->Corrupted data
http://techsupport.informationbuilders.com/sps/41261017.html

Hope this helps. Smiler

Cheers,

Kerry
