[Solved] Managed Reporting Folder structure
Hi,

I have a folder structure in my MR environment where I would like to move a folder out from under another folder and place it at the same level as the second folder. I looked at the .htm file for my domain and see that the folder in question has a tag that says "belongsto" which points to the folder containing this one. I don't think I should monkey with the domain .htm file, so is there a good way to move a folder (with about 120 items in it) that does not involve individually deleting and re-creating each fex? Thanks.

If you do not want to monkey with the HTML file then this is what I do

Create a temp directory in the domain tree . Not under the branch you want it finally

Then copy the 120 files to that directory.

Then create the sub directory
Copy the files from the temp dir to the desired dir e voila..
Finally delete the temp dir with the files (after checking if everything is working)

But....

If you have not only fex files but also HTML files (compound reports) you may find out these do not work well.
In the HTML and JavaScript the full path to files is sometimes used and not the relative path.

Good luck

First thing that comes to mind ...
First, backup your domain/folder - package it up three times ... just kidding :-) Copy all the files to your desktop. If you have lots of .htm files, use batch file/shell script to search and replace the folder name in the .htm files. Delete the files in MR. Copy the files from your desktop back to your new folder.

I don't think that .fex contain folder names but the .htm do.

Maybe there's an easier way ...

Works!

I created a new folder under a different domain in Dev Studio. Then I copied all the files to that. I deleted the original files, deleted the original folder, created my new folder in the location I wanted, then copied all the files over from the temp folder in the other domain.

A caveman could do it.

Thanks.

backup! echo that.
i'ld caution not to copy , but to CUT and PASTE
If you use COPY, from one 'folder' to another, you'll get a gibberish name for the fex when you paste it.
if you use CUT, then you can retain the original name of the fex.
and as you do so, 1 by 1, the .htm is cleaning itself up and keeping up with you.
If you are gutsy, create the new folder, then edit the domain's .htm and change the old folder name to the new folder name.
and see what happens.
i would def try that, but only if i were feeling bulletproof!
and after having remembered rule #1...backup!
