I have to read some data into a variable where my data contains '&' character. Like Health & Beauty etc....
I cannot change the display format of the data, need to retain that character. But when I read '&' character it throws error asking for that value assuming its a &er variable.
I tried escape clause.
IF MERCH_N LIKE 'Stat/Seasonal/L\&%' ESCAPE '\'

I am not sure if this is the right syntax.
But my text says 'Stat/Seasonal/L&P', and it throes error and cannot read &P.
It says value missing.

Any solutions on how to use escape character to treat & as normal 'and'?

Try this:

DEFINE FILE car
test / A30 = IF COUNTRY EQ 'ENGLAND' THEN 'England, Scotland & Wales' ELSE COUNTRY;
END
TABLE FILE car
PRINT test
WHERE test LIKE '%&|%'
END
