Getting 7705 to run locally on Windows 10
Folks,

My old laptop died just as I was setting out for a trip (now in the Netherlands). So I had to run out and buy a new machine very quickly. Naturally it comes with Windows 10 installed. This is giving me a lot of grief on the VPN front but I also cannot get Dev Studio to run properly. I ran the standard install for Tomcat 6 etc. but the client portion of the WF Environment properties says there is no webserver accessible.

I saw this article, which isn't very helpful or hopeful:

I was wondering if anyone has since figured out how to make Windows 10 work with WF 7705 (or any pre WF 8.X version)

Hi George,

I know that this may not help with your current predicament, being away from base, but ...

How about running vm-ware for your WebFOCUS install using an O/S that will work with WF7.7.05?

I only have WF installed on VMs, never on the host machine, as it allows me to switch versions quickly - and also get back running through backups when the host machine gives up the ghost.

Hello,

Like our documentation states, 7.7.05 is not officially supported for Windows 10, and it is unlikely it ever will be, since it's such an old release and a new operating system. Generally, the recommendation is to use 8.1.05, our first release since Windows 10, since that has been checked for compatibility.

I am assuming you are using your laptop for development purposes, right? And that's why you're using 7.7.05, to match your production environment? Like Tony A said, I would personally recommend trying to get some sort of VM running the same OS as your production environment.

If that's not an option for you, and neither is upgrading to 8.1.05, I'm afraid I can't help you there. I know what a pain it is to change your OS (I recently upgraded to Win10 at home, and had to fight my VPN client too) so I hope you don't have to go through much agony.

Best of luck getting everything set up!

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm at the Amsterdam airport and will follow up one way or another once I'm back in the office tomorrow.
