Hey experts,
I need to move our BITest SQLinstance over to a new database, one that is compliant with our new MS licensing. However, I did not originally set this up, so I was wondering if anyone has moved their BITest instance recently and if someone had some tips on all the places (I'm thinking admin console and possibly the reporting server console) of where I need to update the server name as to where it will be moved to.

Thank you in advance!

Basically, you can reconfigure the connection in your MS SQL adapter and that's it. As long as the connection name stays the same, no need to touch the access files, and the server connection is what is named in the Client, and that doesn't change.

However, if you are talking of moving the Repository database (which should be in a separate technical schema as it has nothing to do with reporting data), then you would need to change that in the Client. However you have one chance to get it right, any mistake and its then command line operation trying to get the approot back up.

Cheers,
H.

Hi Larissa

To add to what Hank said, if it is the WebFOCUS 8 Repository you are wanting to change you do that from the client Administration Console under Configuration / Application Settings / Repository. If something goes wrong the file this information is stored in is the \ibi\WebFOCUS81\config\webconfig.xml. You should restart the application server (Tomcat) after the change is made to insure it picks up the new setting.

Thank you for using Focal Point!

And if something goes wrong - usually when some beacon of intelligence DBA innocently resets the Repository password and the app server goes all grumpy, there is a script you can save the day and reset the password with - its a hash in the webconfig.xml. And no, its not in the WFReposUtil as you'd maybe expect - its the updateWebconfig in /ibi/WebFOCUS81/utilities/config/

I can vouch you gain extra guru points from pulling this one off. Big Grin

Cheers,
H.

Don't forget to export a CM Package to have a back up of your repository.
