I remember seeing this somewhere on the forum but can't find it for the life of me. I am looking for the stylesheet syntax to position a certain string of text at a specific position on a page.
It was something like
TYPE=REPORT, TEXT='text string', POSITION=(x y),$

Does anyone know what it is or where I can find that post? Thanks.

Very interesting question. I find no mention of "TEXT=" anywhere in the docs. I imagine this is for PDF and allows you to place a text string anywhere on a page?

You can position an image in this way.
It would be nice if it can be done with text.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm almost positive that I saw some code that I actually ran and it worked. The reason I remember was that I had never seen it documented either (kind of like "BOX=") so I was surprised to see it worked.

And I also don't even remember if it was TEXT=. I can't remember for sure what the keywords were...

Darin

This is something that was set up for co-ordinated reports.

Try this
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT CAR
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=REPORT, OBJECT=STRING, TEXT='My Text', POSITION=(4 5),
MARKUP=OFF, WRAP=OFF, DIMENSION=(1.5 0.40),
FONT='ARIAL', color=RGB(0 128 0),  size=8, $
ENDSTYLE
END

Are you referring to the Precision Reports (I believe they are still in Beta in 7.6.5 but may be coming out in production in the next release)?

Here is an example:

-* File pixelperfect.fex
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT CAR
HEADING
"HELLO"
"GOODBYE"
ON TABLE SET NEWLAYOUT ON
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
UNITS=IN,
PAGESIZE='Letter',
LEFTMARGIN=0.000000,
RIGHTMARGIN=0.000000,
TOPMARGIN=0.500000,
BOTTOMMARGIN=0.500000,
SQUEEZE=OFF,
ORIENTATION=PORTRAIT,
$
TYPE=REPORT,
GRID=OFF,
FONT='TIMES NEW ROMAN',
SIZE=10,

$
TYPE=HEADING,
POSITION=(0.000000 0.000000),
NAME=Heading,
$
TYPE=HEADING,
LINE=1,
POSITION=(0.250000 0.500000),
WRAP=ON,
DIMENSION=(1.750000 0.250000),
NAME=TEXT,

$
TYPE=HEADING,
LINE=2,
POSITION=(6.625000 4.000000),
WRAP=ON,

NAME=TEXT1,

$
TYPE=FOOTING,

NAME=Footing,
$
TYPE=DATAMATRIX,
NAME=Data Matrix,
POSITION=(2.000000 2.000000),
DIMENSION=(6.000000 6.000000),

$
ENDSTYLE

Channy's example (from docs?) runs without error in 7.6.2 and produces expected output also.

Just the normal warning - if you use it then to be supported you must be a minimum of the release in which it is officially acknowledged.

I created the sample by using the Focexec that DevStudio provides in pixper.ftp and using the stylesheet that DevStudio provides in pppdft.sty. After that I just plopped in some fields and items using the Report Painter. (I deleted out the metadata that Report Painter puts in for its use so that the sample would be clearer. If you plan to reopen it again in Report Painter you really need that metadata and you should not take it out.)

A gold star for Waz! That's the syntax I was looking for. It does work in our current version(7.1.6). The whole context of usage (in case you're interested) was that I was placing a box on a free-form (all text) report page at 1/2 inch borders and needed to put a revision notice under the box. If I put the notice in a heading or footing, it would not place the notice low enough to be under the box (without adding a second page) unless I raised the bottom border up 1/4 inch. With this

TYPE=REPORT, OBJECT=STRING, TEXT='Rev. 8-31-2004', POSITION=(0.5 10.65), $

I got exactly what I needed. I was close - just needed the OBJECT=STRING. Thanks all for your responses.

There you go, Frank.
