I have a Data Migrator process that creates xml outputs and drops them into a subdirectory (any I choose) on the server. I would like to have Dashboard present the contents of that subdirectory in a frame, but I don't think it's as straightforward as I imagined. I was hoping to keep this inside the domain to let MRE enforce the security. Is this possible, or do I have to use the server's web services to restrict access to the appropriate user group?

Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.

J.

You should be able to just add a URL object in the MRE domain that points to the file you want to display. Then in the Dashboard View Builder add a launch block that contains that URL from the desired MRE domain.

The contents of the subdirectory will be dynamic, so a static link will not be sufficient.

At first I thought a folder block would do the job, but it appears that only works for focexecs.

You could create a static link to a dynamic page. There are numerous ways to make an HTML page display the contents of a directory as hyperlinks, or dynamically build an HTML page using some Perl script or other method. If nothing else you could just create a URL like

ftp://servername/directory

which would display the directory contents for access via the ftp method. That's dynamic by nature.

John,

You could use a techinque that essentially lists the files in the directory into a file. This file would be a text file with master to describe it. Then a filedef to it and then build a report that shows the file and links to them.

Ex:

C:\myfiles contains a.xml and b.xml

dir /x > a.ftm creates a.ftm

create a master file (called DirInfo) that says

FIELD=CDATE, ACTUAL=A10, ...
FIELD=FILENAME, ACTUAL=A8, ...

THEN FILEDEF DIRINFO to a.ftm

and finally TABLE FILE DIRINFO
PRINT ...
COMPUTE LINK/A255='http:\\webserver\alias' | FILENAME ...

Well shut my mouth -- xml files, for some reason that I don't fully comprehend, appear in folder blocks just like reports do. Apparently I'm done here. Thanks for the help folks!
