hi,
We need to instal web focus in an existing application. What are the things to be considered? Does WF require some specific ports etc? Also in case i would like to have the WF server in a different machine, how do i configure the app/web server in that machine?

Hi Karanth,

A few things need to be more clarified. For example, when you say "an existing application", can you please be a bit more specific on which application(s) you are referring to? What is "specific port"? Do you mean specific port number? Do you already have a WebFOCUS client component installed and you are looking to install WebFOCUS server on a different machine from where the client is installed? Or can you please provide more details on what the "different machine" mean?

If you are installing WebFOCUS 71 on Windows, the Installation manual has general info and may be of interest:
WebFOCUS and ReportCaster Installation and Configuration for Windows 7.1.3
Technical Memo 4576: WebFOCUS and ReportCaster Abridged Windows Installation Guide 7.1

Or please let me know which release you will be using and which operating systems that WebFOCUS will be running on, I will be more than happy to locate more manuals for you.

As these questions are all related to installation and configurations, the right channel for assistance would be to contact Information Builders’ Customer Support Services and open a case, as we will definitely need to know specifics and details about what you already have on your machine(s), as well as what you plan to install/configure. You may either call at 1-800-736-6130, or access the online system InfoResponse at http://techsupport.ibi.com. Here is a list of information to be ready when you call: http://techsupport.ibi.com/before_you_call.jsp.

Hope this helps. Big Grin

Cheers,

Kerry

I've installed WF 7.1 with a servlet environment a couple of times and here's what I've found. YMMV.

The documentation is pretty good and easy to follow.

I think the WF Server does require 3(?) specific ports to listen on (this is discussed in the install guide).

The WF Client will be it's own application on your App server (which makes for some interesting security discussions about cross app sharing of session data). You can point it to the proper WF Server and everything will fall into place.

You will need to review your security requirements and decide the best way to configure that based on your findings.
