I was looking through the manual just now (yes, I admit it) and I stumbled across a Dialogue Manager Suffix command called QUOTEDSTRING. I am curious to know if anyone already knows about this suffix command. Basically it will add single quotes to a DM string variable appropriately. See page 5-35 in the Developing Reporting Applications manual v7.1

Thanks!

Mickey

Mickey,

N.Selph was the first to mention this on FP in Sept. 2006.

Amazingly, it's been around since 5.3 but I've never used it, though it probably would have saved me some time on more than one occasion.

We're all still learning stuff, aren't we?

I guess I should learn to do a search on FOCAL POINT before posting. Sorry. Roll Eyes

It looks like a very cool command.

Thanks!

I think the idea was for drilldowns for passing the amper variables

DDFEX.fex( TOD=&TOD.QUOTEDSTRING XYZ=&XYZ.QUOTEDSTRING )

We are using it on one central place.

As we have all our applications in multiple languages (German and French actually) all our textes are stored in a DB. These textes are used in TABLE output, in HTMLFORMs and in MAINTAIN forms. For TABLE and HTML we get it via Dialog Manager.
As especially in French we have many apostrophes within the texts, we had to code them as two apostrophes. In TABLE and HTML this showed up as one apostrophe. But in Maintain this showed up as two Frowner
Coding only one apostrophe in the texts and using .QUOTEDSTRING in the DM code preparing the variables for TABLE and HTMLFORM resolved this. So we have nice text presentation all over our applications Smiler

Another useful application of the post-fix .QUOTEDSTRING is in drill-downs that may potentially contain the value FOC_NONE. Since FOC_NONE lines of code, on their own are never placed on the stack for execution, the post-fix .QUOTEDSTRING, just like .EVAL lines of code will indeed be placed on the stack, so the line of code containing the value FOC_STACK will not be thrown away.

TYPE=DATA,
COLUMN=N1,
FOCEXEC=app/parent_fex(COUNTRY=N1 YEAR=&YEAR.QUOTEDSTRING),
