I am trying to use the value of &lines to control the text in a graph's legend.

Then, my stylesheet will be coded like this...

quote:

-*** Set Last Legend item to say Total
setSeriesLabel(0,"Apples");
setSeriesLabel(1,"Oranges");
setSeriesLabel(2,"Grapes");
setSeriesLabel(&RCNT,"Total");

So, in this sample I am going to table the table I am getting my data from to see how many items will display in the graph...

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
COUNTRY
ON TABLE HOLD
END
-RUN
-TYPE &LINES
-RUN

-SET &LLEN = &LINES.LENGTH;
-TYPE &LLEN

-EXIT

The issue seems to be the

setSeriesLabel(&RCNT,"Total");

does not respond well to a passed value which
looks like this:

setSeriesLabel( 4,"Total");

I believe this is happening because the 4 is padded with leading blanks. I tried using TRIM to remove the leading blanks, but I then found traling blanks.

I am looking at posit and substr but I wanted to put this out there for others to look at,

Thanks! Roll Eyes

There are a couple of ways to do this.

Check out LJUST and TRUNCATE.

or

you could try
-SET &Val = &LINES.EVAL ;

Almost forgot, you could also try STRIP, but that may be confusing.

You need to be aware thar the result of any function in dialog manager is a size, and if the size is larger than the number it will then have trailing spaces. TRUNCATE removes reailing spaces.
