I was wondering haw a may make a by field to put the data in a certian order, I though i could use a define field and give them values like 1 2 3 4 5 and place them in order by number... If i did that how could i then have it ordered right and put out the origanal value


EX.

apple = 2

orange = 4

banana = 1

pineapple =3

out

Hi,

As you said use a define field to sort in the order you want and do a NOPRINT on that defined field and print the actual BY field.

DEFINE FILE CAR
SRT/I2 = IF COUNTRY EQ 'ENGLAND' THEN 1 ELSE 9;
END
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
CAR
BY SRT NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY
END
