I've inherited a large amount of reports to administer, and there is one that has me baffled. It creates an excel workbook with multiple sheets. If it is run in deferred mode, the resulting workbook is fine. However, whenever it is executed using Report Caster, the resulting spreadsheet contains one sheet of unformatted data.

I've tried using every EXL2K formatting option but I can't get this report to run correctly with caster.

Using WebFocus 7.1. Thanks for any suggestion.
Vad

If you are using BYTOC to create the separate worksheets, when running through Report Caster you must use a SET COMPOUND command rather than including BYTOC on your ON TABLE command.

SET COMPOUND = BYTOC

WF 7.7.01
Reporting Server on zLinux or Windows
Client on linux
Output formats - EXL2K, HTML, PDF

There is no BYTOC in the report. It runs a series of non-related reports and puts them into different tabs of the spreadsheet.
Each report has ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K OPEN and the last has ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K CLOSE

WebFocus 7.1
Windows server 2003
all output

This could be the problem then - there should be only one OPEN per Compound report.

SET COMPOUND=OPEN

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
SALES
BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K
END

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
SALES
BY BODYTYPE
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K
END

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
SALES
BY MODEL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K
END

SET COMPOUND=CLOSE

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
SALES
BY CAR
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT EXL2K
END

7.1.what?

There are known issues with RC distribution of copmpound reports pre 7.1.4

even though you are not using BYTOC Sharon's suggestion of SET COMPOUND=BYTOC appears to be a work around

None of the suggestions have worked. I don't know what subrelease system is, the problem must be that limitation. I copied the .foc and .mas to the test server with 7.6 running and the workbook created as it was programmed.

Will have to run this manually until production server is upgraded to newer version.

I am currently on 7.1.3 and have a job that does a workbook with over 100 worksheets with no problem. It has been working fine for several years and it is distributed with Report Caster.

Did you correct this in your program?

The thing to remember here is that when you run something through RC the ON TABLE [PC]HOLD of the final output is NOT used, the selection from the RC dialog is used - as JG intimates.

As there is no option for Excel then you have to work with what you have and your best option for the type of output you want is exactly what Sharon has suggested.
