Hi,

I have 200+ charts/reports where I need to swap out one field for a different field. Is there any easy way to do this without having to manually modify each chart/report? The chart/report will still need to be able to be edited in IA+ without error after the field swap has been done.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks,
Kelly

This is a hack but I'm thinking you can just leave the field alone in the 200 report and change the mapping of FIELDNAME and ALIAS in the master file. So, let's say you have a a SQL Server table that has FIELDNAME=CAR,ALIAS=AUTOMOBILE. Your report sees CAR. So, if you change AUTOMOBILE to VEHICLE where VEHICLE has the same format type, then CAR will be mapped to VEHICLE instead.

The reports and charts wouldn't even know you made a change and will keep displaying CAR but WebFOCUS will point to a different SQL Server column because they use the ALIAS.

The other option is to export the reports, bulk edit all of them in some tool, global change, save, and import them.

Hi,

Thank you all for your suggestions. We were able to use do a Change management export and then use notepad++ to mass find and replace and then import the changed .fex files back in.

Thanks,
Kelly

I am surprised but glad you could use an external editor and still have IA open and edit them. Maybe it was the change management export/import that did the trick. I wish I could cleanup my HTML Composer files the same way.
