I am passing ABCD123 as a parameter for my webfocus report. However I only want webFocus to read ABCD as the parameter. How do I do this.

Thanks IN advance

Give this a try:

-SET &VAR = 'ABCD123';
-SET &STR = SUBSTR(&VAR.LENGTH,&VAR,1,4,4,'A4');
-TYPE &STR

I have occasionally had trouble using SUBSTR in dialogue manager. Sometimes it always returns 8 characters, even when you specify less - just pads the remaining characters with whatever suits its whim of the moment. Anyway, if that happens to you, you can switch to EDIT:

-SET &VAR = 'ABCD123';
-SET &STR = EDIT(&VAR,'9999');
-TYPE &STR
