Our servers frequently go down.

I received a request to create a job to run daily, say at 6:00 a.m., and if the server is down, notify certain people via email. Can this be done in WebFOCUS?

A variation of this is, if the server is up, but the data sources are inaccessible, how can you create a report that ReportCaster can then email? Is there a way to create an error handler that would identify this?

Thank you.

When you say "server is down", do you mean the WebFOCUS server, the physical server, the database server ?, Web server ??

For the database server, you can do a simple test to see if connectivity is there, say by tabling one of the tables, then check the return code.

For the Reportign server, you will have to do a check on the Web server, not sure how to do that.

For the WebFOCUS Reporting Server, take a look at the Server Console > Workspace Configuration > General > Notification.

quote:
Workspace Manager sends email notification to server_admin_email when one of the specified events happens. The followings are predefined events:

CRASHED - listeners, special services or agents crashed.
ABORTED - agents aborted.
NORESOURCE - no more available agents for required service (maximum number is reached).
NODISKSPACE - not enough disk space in dfm_dir directory to process deferred requests.

Note: If email sends fail, be sure to check the smtp host is active and a virus scanner is not blocking edachkup.

Thank you, Francis. Although this is not what we're needing for this particular issue, we may be able to use your suggestion for other alerts.
