As usual, there are some subtleties. Those involve the usage of FOC_NONE.

For example:
-* This will apply the WHERE condition on Claim_type but not PAID_SW
WHERE Claim_Type EQ 'CSI' OR 'NA';
WHERE PAID_SW EQ FOC_NONE;

-* This will do the same, but cause a syntax error for the next WHERE
-* because the semi-colon in between goes missing
WHERE Claim_Type EQ 'CSI' OR 'NA'
  AND PAID_SW EQ FOC_NONE;

-* This will not apply the WHERE condition
WHERE Claim_Type EQ 'CSI' OR 'NA' AND PAID_SW EQ FOC_NONE;

-* And this will cause another syntax error, because the condition starts
-* with AND instead of WHERE
WHERE Claim_Type EQ FOC_NONE
  AND PAID_SW EQ 'Yes';

Add another level of subtlety with the use of _FOC_NULL. Whereas FOC_NONE will prevent a full line entering the FOCSTACK, _FOC_NULL will be selective:

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES
BY COUNTRY
BY SEATS
WHERE COUNTRY EQ '_FOC_NULL' AND SEATS NE 2;
END

The condition " COUNTRY EQ '_FOC_NULL' " is deleted; the " AND " is discarded; only " SEATS NE 2 " is retained.

Thanks for the further explanation. This is a big help in remediating old code from 7.1.6 and prior.

Yes the result was that no records were returned. I had to go back to the original developer and find out what was the logic to be applied.

Thanks again to all!
