BV's are great for organizing your column names in folders, especially if you have a lot of columns.

You should also consider creating a Dimensional View since the 8.2x release uses them for Auto Drill which gives you a lot of flexibility in creating reports and charts.

if you are on any 81 gen before gen 913, I would recommended upgrading first. There is a bug in 8.1 ( Possibly going back to 8.0.09, not sure when it was introduced, but definitely after 8.0.08). There is an issue when using business views and DBA security where the sql was being generated improperly. It was fixed in 913.

My recommendation would be to not create business views for all of your metadata, only the ones being exposed to end users. There is no need for a business view on a singular table.
