Gurus,
I need some advice/feedback on best practices/methodologies for a Hub/Sub project. In this environment I'm faced with two options to develop webFocus reports
1. Use REMOTE BEGIN/REMOTE END
2. Create Remote Synonym for all the metadata.

I haven't really tested any but, I would like get an opinion on these options.

Appreciate your feedback.

I think this will depend on what you are doing.

Typically what you want to do is to push back as much processing to the database. This does rely on whether the reports will show detailed or summary information.

My suggestion is to use both, depending on what you are doing.

If there is business logic involved, then use REMOTE BEGIN/END, if the query is simple, then remote synonyms.

My impression is that the REMOTE block is treated as a SYSIN stream, not as a fex. In any event, any dialog manager variables appearing in the block are substitured locally, and any DM statements are executed locally, before the block is sent.

If the remote part is complex enough to require Dialog Manager, store it as a fex on the remote WF server, and EX the fex in the REMOTE block.

Jack, Your impressions are correct. Dialog Manager is not supported between the REMOTE tags.
