When I have a table hold and then join the key from that hold file to another key in a different table, I get this:
Error Parsing MASTER File
Unable to correctly parse MASTER File COLYRHLD. Possible Reasons:
1. Your server is not configured correctly to work with DevStudio.
2.The adapter specified in MASTER file description has not been configured correctly for this server.
3.The access file for MASTER file description points to an adapter configuration that is not set up for this server.
Would you like to cointue? with yes and no.

The hold file has 2 & variables and I have them
-DEFAULT &FIRST = ' ';
-DEFAULT &SECOND = ' ';
as well.
Would anybody know What could be the problem with this parsing master file error and how to fix it?
Thanks so much in advance.

Funny you should ask. I had that issue come up just yesterday, turns out the 'HTML' as output was showing instead of 'DEFAULT' on the report creation, so when I selected to have the hold file created, it generated under the covers 'on table hold as abc format html'
I delete the format html manually, then on another hold file creation made sure that was the issue by changing the 'HTMl' to 'DEFAULT' in the painter.

but I checked all of that. I have default on the painter and on option, I have as default as well. I just double triple checked these before I wrote this. So if not this, what else could it be?

Try changing the -DEFAULT to -SET, only thing else I see as different in the way we have to fool Dev Studio.

Please show wf version in your signature. 7.1.4 onwards cures this problem.
