Hi All,

When generating a report based on a reporting object which has the opion of OLAP, (reresiding in MRE), can we execute the report like,

Let the report output come with OLAP filters and OLAP pane visible, but without having any data initailly. The idea is,let user select the OLAP filter for his WHERE clauses and then only the database hit should happen. Anybody can suggest a method ?

(My metadata is based on a Oracle 9i database which contain more than 3 lakhs records.)

Thanks and Regards,
Johney Joseph

Johney,

I like the idea, but I don't think that can be done easily - if at all. I only have an intermediate understanding of the WebFOCUS OLAP tool, but I believe that you have to run the request to get the pane. The only way to run the request with no data output would be to add a filter to return 0 rows. All subsequent requests would then inherit the initial filter, therefore you should always get 0 rows.

Now, that being said, there is always a way to do things with WebFOCUS if you are inventive enough. The real question should be: How much time and effort is this problem worth to solve?

Hi dhagen,

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me.

I have some 200 reports which faces this performance issue (having lakhs of records) and it loads all the records an then appear the OLAP pane to limit the selection. So it is worth spending considerable amount of time which make sense for me.

The alternative which I have in mind is, create an HTML wrapper (parameter screen) and allow the users to select their 'WHERE clause'
and run the report with OLAP filters OFF

I still not understand why this feature can not be provided by the tool itself . I saw the option where we can hide the OLAP filters but display the entire data in OLAP layout. I just want the just opposite functionality like let the OLAP filters alone come with OLAP controls and without the data initially.

I still look forward to get some easy methods to overcome this.

Thanks and regards,
Johney Joseph.
