[Solved]Joins in AppStudio
So I have my join built and I can see it in the procedure, and run it with out errors.

But how do I get the join fields to show up in the object inspector so I can put them in my report?

The only fields in the object inspector are from initially selected data source.

I am guessing it is something stupid I am just not seeing it.

Only my second day in AppStudio.

If your JOIN is properly built it should be there.

The JOINed table "become" the last segment of the master table; scroll down maybe.
JOIN
 INNER EMPLOYE2.EMPINFO.EMP_ID IN EMPLOYE2 TO UNIQUE EMPDATA.EMPDATA.PIN
IN EMPDATA TAG J1 AS J1
 END
TABLE FILE EMPLOYE2
PRINT
     EMPLOYE2.EMPINFO.EMP_ID
     J1.EMPDATA.PIN
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM NOLEAD
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT HTML
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
$
ENDSTYLE
END

There is no joins in the code.
If I try to paste it in the source, I get an 'Error
parsing report req....'

>JOIN<
JOIN

pop up and I can not get back to the gui.

Have you built the JOIN with the GUI ?
If so, have you ran it once built (it will check if it's a valid JOIN) ?
Then, if valid, have you saved it ?

From that point, you should have a JOIN if you open it in text editor.

I built the join in the GUI. It passes with no error.
I click save. I can see the join code at the bottom of the fex.

But the fields from the joined tables are not in the field list in the object inspector.

Hi Greg,
Once you add a report right after the JOIN where the selected file is the parent file of the JOIN, the child is not becoming the last "segment" of the parent ?

Using the code in my previous post, once you open it with the GUI, EMPDATA is shown as the last segment of file EMPLOYE2.

Finally, if not, you may need to open a case and have remote assistance.

There is something strange going on with it. I can not see the join in the code at all in AppStudio.

In Dev 8 I can see the join code but non of the joined fields are in the fields tab of the object inspector.

Greg,

You won't bve able to see the JOIN code from the Report tab, but you will see the effect as mentioned.

Have a look at the "Procedure View" control and you will have the option to open the JOIN in "Native Canvas" or "Text Editor". If you already have the JOIN open in "Native Canvas" you can press the "Show/Hide" to see the code in a Pop up. Otherwise you have to close the Join tab and reopen in "Text Editor"

I have noticed in App Studio 8009 that selecting any objects above the last Report is a bit hit and miss - but not sure if that is due to my dodgy mouse or not.

Also make sure that your JOIN obcject doesn't drop below the Report Object in the Procedure Viewer. Seems that you can drag and drop object now and I'm having issues moving things by mistake.

Its not your mouse. If I try to click on a join in the procedure panel it automatically jumps back to report.

If I type anything in the code. Even simple comment, it will not let me click on the report tab until I remove whatever I type.

It appears (at least for me) that you can not add the joins after the report painter is open and you have started on a report. You have to add the join from the procedure viewer first, then choose new report.

Greg,

I've had some "luck" with adding/selecting components in the Procedure viewer by left clicking the component and while holding down the left button, click and hold the right button.

Then you can release the left button and select the option in the menu you want.

Also it appears that I get better responses when the App Studio window is maximized.

Definetly weird behaviour and I'll be raising a case when I finish outlining the bahaviour.

Cheers

Stu
