i have a general question. Is there a limit of BY Fields in a report. in my actual report project, i can not add additional fields. i do not get an error message, the fields are just not populated.

Yes there is a Limit...I think it's 30 or 32.

What you might be able to do is concatenate some of the "logical fitting together" by fields
for example if you have a client_ID and a client_name and a client_adres you can create a string that holds the 3 fields and you win 2 by fields

I seem to remember that the old limit of 32 has been increased. If I'm not mistaken it might even have gone up to 256. Which reminds me that I really should start reading those snf's.

Your right, it did.
That is why I asked which version, and how nay fields.
Seems 7.6.5 has a limit of 32. And 7.7 has 128.
Can't find any mention of increases in between.

Thanks a lot!!! i use the 7.6.8 Version for this report an after 32 BY fields the report ignores additional BY,s.

Then you will have to use Franks suggestion of concatenating fields to reduce the number of BY's.
