[SOLVED] POPUPDESC and Hold Files

POPUPDESC doesn't seem to work against HOLD files created against data sources that do contain the DESCRIPTION attribute?

Is there any way I can carry the DESCRIPTION attribute from the original data source to the HOLD files from which my final reports will be run?

If not, is there a workaround?

I know you can control TITLE and ACCEPT parameters and a few other options for HOLD files, but I don't think there is any way to propagate the DESCRIPTION attribute to a hold file.

You may want to try creating a master file that contains the information you want including description and put it somewhere in your server path. Then you can use this alternate master file pointing against your temporary hold file (using a FILEDEF or platform equivalent) That way you have complete control over the master file which your final reports will use.

Thanks, Darin - Interesting workaround. I got it to work by doing the following.

1. I issued an APP HOLDMETA appname to the FEX to save the HOLD MFD when created.
2. I ran the TABLE request to create the HOLD MFD (ON TABLE HOLD AS AA)
3. I edited AA.MFD created in step 2 above and added the DESCRIPTION attributes as required.
3. Changed the original TABLE request from ON TABLE HOLD AS AA to ON TABLE SAVB AS AA and was able to report against the SAVB file without any FILEDEFs.

What about DEFINEd fields that I need to have POPUPs for the columkn titles? Will I have to put my DEFINEs in the MFD too. I know that DESCRIPTION is supported in DEFINEe fields in an MFD but don't think it is supported in a DEFINE in a FEX. Any ideas?
