Hi,

I am working on a french report which has many alphabets with grave accent in it. The French language pack is not enabled due to which I need to handle it in different way. I tried the option of HEXBYT command(with different ASCII codes for different special characters). However, it tends to work sometimes but then sometimes it gives question marks in place of those special characters.

Am I going wrong somewhere????

It would be great if someone could give me inputs on the above issue.

Thanks,

You need to change the NLS settings on the WebFOCUS server and in the Client Administration console.

For the main European languages I found that code page 923 - Latin 9 (ISO8859-15) on the server and 65001 - Unicode (UTF-8) on the client seemed to work effectively. This is assuming that the characters are held correctly in the database.

Hi,

Thank you for the above 2 suggestions! But I am not sure how to go ahead with making the NLS settings. Can somebody give me details on the same. Is it possible to handle that in the Webfocus fex itself or it needs to be taken care only at the server and client side as mentioned above!

Thanks,

These are server and client settings and have to be done on the applicable console.

You cannot display a character if it is not within the available code page on the server and client.

hi Alan,

Thank you! when i try the below code:
-REPEAT :Loop FOR &Count FROM 33 TO 255;
-SET &Char = HEXBYT(&Count, 'A1');
-TYPE &Count &Char
-:Loop

I get the characters with grave accent. Also when i concatenate with the other character strings, it does show the output.However,when i try to put it in the report it comes as something else.

I would not be able to change any client and server end settings.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. Smiler Smiler

Thanks,

You cannot display reports with with unsupported code page characters. Either change the code page or display incorrect characters.
