I've created a XHT file on the mainframe using the following FOCEXEC.

TABLE FILE CAR
HEADING
"PIVOTTABLE WITH CACHEFIELDS"
"SUM OF PRICE BY CAR ACROSS COUNTRY"
PRINT RCOST
BY CAR BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE HOLD AS EXL2K9 FORMAT EXL2K PIVOT
CACHEFIELDS DCOST
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=DATA, COLUMN=CAR, COLOR=RED,$
TYPE=HEADING, COLOR=BLUE, STYLE=BOLD, SIZE=14,$
ENDSTYLE
END

WHEN I OPEN THE FILE WITH EXCEL I GET THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE:

XML ERROR in PivotTable
REASON: Bad Value
ACTION: Ignoring Tag
FILE: C:\EXL2K9.xht
GROUP: PTRule
TAG: Rule
VALUE: 'CAR']All(

THE LINE IN THE FILE ON THE MAINFRAME THAT IS CAUSING THE ERROR IS THE FOLLOWING:

'CAR'ÝAll¨

THE FILE IS DOWNLOAD WITH THE (ASCII OPTION.

IF I REMOVE THE CHARACTERS "ÝAll" FROM THE FOCUS GENERATED XHT FILE IT OPENS IN EXCEL WITHOUT ERROR.

ANY REASON FOR THIS? WHAT IS FOCUS TRYING TO DO WITH THE "ÝAll" STRING.

THANKS.

MAINFRAME FOCUS 7.3.5
EXCEL 2003 SP3

I would venture that the ASCII translation of the Y with accent symbol for French spelling is causing you pain. How to fix it? Wouldn't know off the top of my head.

As per Leah, you need to ensure that the char translation is performed correctly within the transfer. How are you porting the file to the PC to enable you to open it with Excel? If you are relying upon the ON TABLE HOLD with your suitable filedef then you will need to think around the NLS. If you are using FTP then look how you are doing that.
