Execute procudure without window?

Is there a way to execute a procedure without having a window opening? The reason I ask is becuase I created a fex with the sole purpose to append to a focus file and I don't need the HTML window saying that it executed.

I know I can write some JSP in the fex that is generated to close the window but was wondering if there was something easier?

You can always use javascript and a AJAX framework to execute a procedure without opening a new window. I've got a js library and an example if you want to see how I'm doing it, just let me know.

You can also set the procedure to return in an iframe within the current html and locate the iframe off of the screen (ie give it negative z-index). This will only work if you are using iframes which is how version 7+ does it in the html editor.

Otherwise, I'd have to see an example of the code you are using to help.

I can't use report caster because this is being used to save parameters on a launch page.

eric. an easy way is to just set the target to a hidden iframe using a DIV tag and visibility hidden, this way the user will not see it. I use this a lot for an web based IDE I have created to execute some focus code and get the results back. I do however display an animated gif so the use know it is doing something then when I get the response back I hide the gif.

The problem with hiding the iFrame is that if there's something wrong with the WebFOCUS request, you won't see the error messages.

Francis. is right about that I in my focexec if there is an error message I have javascript that get set if there is an error and display and alert to the user.

If you have also ETL installed you can schedule the process there, you won't get an html screen and I suppose that if you have to add to a focus file this must be done more than once.
ETL helps you doing that job unattended.

No ETL used in this case... I have a security process that gets executed in MRE as a profile and only want "if they fail security" for a window to be seen.
