Using Web Focus against SunGard Banner Systems

Rowan University migrated from SCT/Sun
Gard's Plus system to SunGard's Banner System.
We had used focus for reporting against Sis+ files and now attempting to use Web Focus against new Banner System. Unfortunately, the programmer who assisted us in using focus retired and none of the new programmers know anything about Webfocus. I am looking for a school that is using Webfocus that may have some sample programs in Webfocus that read the Banner Student Accts Receivable files, Housing , Fin/Aid etc. Have some specific questions .. for example the syntax to use in web focus in order to use call functions in Banner System.. for example to obtain the student's Classification status for a given term. Any samples fex's would be appreciated. Also would like to know what Schools are using Webfocus and if it has met their reporting needs.

I would suggest you used the ODBC adapter against the Banner system. Most systems these days support ODBC.

Use the synonym builder to build structures if you can (requires constraints on the sql tables) and then use Report assistant to get started.

WebFOCUS is a great system that you can do everything with but it requires more initial investment than simpler systems which target the common requirements but are not as adaptable.

I think that's a fair review!

I have seen many users from several universities.
Maybe you have a user group on that specific software, or you should contact the local Focus reps who can tell you more about other users (and help you to develop what you need)
Some basic courses might also be a good investment.

If you search on this site for "SCT Banner" you will find some other users of that system.

We are an SCTSungard Plus2000 school using WebFOCUS against DB2. As you are Banner, you might get FOCUS support from the SCTSungard support sight. You need to be registered with them for the support of the product.
