Is there a way to set either an integer or decimal DEFINE to be a null value and have it display that way on a report?

Yes,
DEFINE FILE CAR
  WS_INTEGER/I9 WITH DEALER_COST MISSING ON = MISSING;
  WS_DECIMAL/D12.2 WITH DEALER_COST MISSING ON = MISSING;
END
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM RCOST
    DCOST
    WS_INTEGER
    WS_DECIMAL
BY COUNTRY
BY CAR
BY MODEL
END

It is advisable to get used to issuing the WITH realfieldname in your defines, especially if it is a mutli segment.

Tony, thanks for the response. Is there a way to do this when the original value is not missing such as setting it to null when the field value equals zero?

At the request of my customer, I'm trying to not show 0's on the report and using conditional formatting doesn't look like it will work since they also want to display the report with alternating colors for the row background.

Thanks.

David

Hi David,

Again the answer is yes -

DEFINE FILE CAR
  WS_INTEGER/I9 WITH DEALER_COST MISSING ON = IF DEALER_COST EQ 0 THEN MISSING ELSE DEALER_COST;
  WS_DECIMAL/D12.2 WITH DEALER_COST MISSING ON = IF DEALER_COST EQ 0 THEN MISSING ELSE DEALER_COST;
END
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM RCOST
    DCOST
    WS_INTEGER
    WS_DECIMAL
BY COUNTRY
BY CAR
BY MODEL
END

Combine that with Prarie's SET command above and you will get spaces where there would have been zeroes.

Good luck

If it's just a matter of not displaying zeros...try a format like D12.2S to suppress the display of 0 values. Reformat the field on the fly in the verb statement.
