Can someone tell me the max filename length for a focus database running on an SU.

Seems the database name needs to be 8 characters, or less?

Thanks - William Torres

Hi William,

Do you mean WebFOCUS 534? I don't think we have 544 yet.

Please let us know.

Cheers, Big Grin

William,

I don't think it has changed. We're on 5.2.7 and there the limit is 8 chars.

FYI, I just get confirmation from one of consultants. Yes, H Lidholm is right. To use SU, the max filename length for a FOCUS database must be 8 characters or less. If the filename has more than 8 characters, SU won't work. This limit is for all the current releases we have.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Big Grin

What is the maximum length for a filename on release 7.6.4, and where is this in the documentation?

Thank you,

John

John,

64 Characters for FOCUS and fixed format sequential data sources. From Naming a Master File - page 29 of Describing Data With WebFOCUS Language Version 7 Release 6 (DN4500806.1107), but I'm sure I've seen it in other places.

Cheers

Stu

There was a bug in 5.3.x wherein you couldn't do a REBUILD on a FOCUS file whose name was longer than 8 characters. This was not a problem in 5.2.x. This is fixed in 7.6. REBUILD is not SU and I would test this regardless of what release you are on.
