I have the following define with takes a Date and Time date field and uses HDATE function to create just the date in the form YYMD ... when I test for the date being MISSING it does not show it as such ... when I use SET NA = YES on the print out shows it is MISSING field...

Is there some problem with the HDATE function and MISSING field values???

Your define did not show. I'm not familiar with HDATE, but if the value passed to it is missing then I'd say unexpected results - by missing, as in non-existent. And as the define is evaluated on each record coming through, then if the record is missing that element information it would still try to do something with the null data, what were you hoping to get back on 'missing'?
