Anyone out there ever run Developer Studio in a Citrix environment? We currently have four stand-alone licences but we would like to use Citrix. I've done a search on this site but came up with no hits on Citrix. Tech Support says it is supported but I would like input from some real world experience.

We did run it for several remote users in a Citrix environment. This was version 5.21. I don't know very much about this deployment.

Hi Kevin,

I ran some search on Information Builders' online documents and came across the following Tech Memo which may be of interest:

Technical Memo 4578: Citrix Support for Developer Studio 5

Regarding Developer Studio 7 on Citrix, I asked our internal people and here is what I heard back:

Rather than using Citrix, they may want to consider the Developer Studio Network Installation option which allows you to install DevStudio on one shared machine and run it from multiple locations. This is discussed in Appendix A of the Developer Studio Installation and Configuration manual for 7.1.3. It requires a special license to enable.

Though very familiar with Citrix, I’d imagine it should work roughly the same as with Developer Studio 5. The only real difference is that wfscom.wfs is now named wfscom.xml. Also, to run the WebFOCUS Server installed with Developer Studio, you need to provide the server admin password as explained in Ch 4 of the 7.1 DevStudio install/config doc.

Hope this helps. Big Grin

Cheers,

Kerry

We have developers in 4 different parts of the world. Installing the network edition on a remote server proved to take 7-8 minutes to load.

So since this posting was started has anyone pursued this any further? Has IBI considered using a database or similar connection to control the concurrent usage?

Has anyone installed this on a terminal server and had developers login to the terminal server to access the "network" edition on the local machine?

Any feed back is appreciated.

We have it and I occasionally use 5.2 without too many problems - latency isn't too bad either. We're planning on using exclusivly it for 7.6.2 but we haven't fully implemented it - I can't really comment on stability, bugs, etc. since we're still setting everything up. It *seems* to work but I haven't had a chance to really hammer away on it.

We've been told that 7.6 is/will be "certified" for Citrix. IMHO, Citrix works relatively well but is certainly not bullet-proof.

So are you using it with Citrix or just terminal server?

I actually use both. I usually use Remote Desktop from home just because I have so many other tools/files that are on my PC at work.

When that's not available I use 5.2.x WF in Citrix which seems to work pretty well.

Hello. I was just wondering if you ran into any issues with running Dev Studio through Citrix.
Thank you.
