Have any of you out there had instances of developer studio just shutting down for no apparent reason. I have had it happen when in the selection assistant and press okay, and when highlighting a field in the report header and pressing the backspace. It doesn't happen all the time and is not 'reproducable' on demand so can't really report it as a case, however was interested in knowing if any one else had had it happen. Thanks.

Leah,
Wonderful isn't it!! Same with 7.1.3, one minute editing away merrily listening to your favorite tunes on the MP3 player and then - Dev Studio disappears off the radar with no warning. I've seen it happen when selecting mulitple files in an apps folder before moving them to MRE or something. Hold CTRL and click the next one and ......... where's DS gone? I'm sure that is why the save on run "feature" was introduced in 7.1.1 to ensure that things were saved! lol T Old FOCUS coders never die, they just become functionally stable. (Tony A

I'm still on v5.3.4 and when I found the "Confirm Close" option, I thought it was a godsend.
I don't know if this is an option in v7.*, but if it is and you don't have it checked, perhaps you could set it on and see if you at least get a message like "Do you really want to exit?". No such luck Francis, as if I inadvertantly click on the top right corner of Dev Studio (red 'X') it prompts me to save anything if it is still open in edit with changes. If DS goes bye-bye, it goes, full stop, nothing, off the radar, oblivion.
Such a nice touch ...... T Old FOCUS coders never die, they just become functionally stable. (Tony A

Aha! I've had this happen to me recently while using the Data Management Console. My reason was because the WiFi link between my office and the remote server location had lost connectivity - and the DM server had gone down somehow.
I restarted the workspace on the server, and also disconnected and reconnected from the server in the console. Interestingly, the server reported that there was a corrupt XML file in a flow somewhere and a restart seemed to fix this. I the same - think its something you have to live with in Dev Studio - generally occurs when using the painter.
I personally think that they should switch the C++ traceback routine feature on when they deploy it. Although slightly slower in operation, it can give some diags when it goes, because currently it just crashes. Still at least you dont have the bother of not sending an error report to Microshaft Server: WF 7.6.2 ( BID/Rcaster) Platform: W2003Server/IIS6/Tomcat/SQL Server repository Adapters: SQL Server 2000/Oracle 9.2 Desktop: Dev Studio 765/XP/Office 2003 Applications: IFS/Jobscope/Maximo |

Call me picky, but I like the power to say no to Microshaft occasionally myself!!

Gratefully we have not had the DevStudio shutdown in the 7.1 era because it used to happen all the time in the 4. and 5. versions. Back then we did find that having no other open Windows sessions helped alleviate the frustration.
But always, save early and save often. Sandy Kadish Test: 7.6.7 - Windows XP - Tomcat Prod: 7.6.7 - Windows XP - Tomcat |

We've been on 7.1.3 and 7.1.4 for a while and have had the same thing happen... Different scenarios though... the only one I resolved was when we were trying to apply a custom stylesheet that had a font that wasn't accessable on the reporting server. Once I removed the references to the invalid fonts, we had no more issues (at least that day!)... Now we're on 7.1.6 -- keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks all, I was beginning to wonder if I was 'alone'. Today, I just highlighted some text in the report header of the painter so I could change the font and by by no warning. Of course I didn't intend to start a microsoft bug report discussion as well. Can relate.

As someone else already mentioned, I see this from time to time when ctrl clicking multiple files. Unfortunately it is not reproducible (it just happens occasionally without warning).

Same here -- we recently got WebFOCUS and it crashed 3-4 times yesterday under various circumstances for apparently no reason. The Developer Studio screen just disappeared. I may inquire with tech support as to whether this is a bug or not. We're running 7.6.0.

In previous versions, I frequently had this occur. Since moving to 7.x, I have seen the problem decrease significantly with the exception of the previously mentioned selectinf multiple file by Ctrl-Click. In that, I find about 10-15% of the time it likes to disappear. Are you listening big brother?
