Question: When opening the Dashboard is there a way to create a pop up screen announcing a new tab on the Dashboard that the user will then close? Like all of the "Take this survey" pop up windows that we get when we surf the net...

We would like the announcement to show up once and then the user close the announcement and not to show up again during the dashboard session.

The mgmt does not want to create a new tab on the dashboard for announcements.

Any and all ideas are welcomed!

Thanks

My guess is that you needa modal dialig box, but not sure of where you put the code.

I wonder if you can embed some js into the welcome message ?

Well, we had a couple of ways to "solve" the problem --- we have a banner and could put a message that scrolls under it -- rejected by mgmt -- on the first tab that opens in the dashboard we could have popup screen -- could either be an alert (easiest to code) but rejected by mgmt or we could build a little function to popup the screen ---

We had wanted to use a profile to do the work, but the problem is that the profile is a "domain based" profile and not dashboard specific. My admin looked at getting a variable to capture which dashboard was being executed so that the appropriate popup would show up on the correct dashboard. That ended up being rejected as well.

So, to make life easier, we ended up adding a news type tab which simply pulls up an html screen and we can change that easily as the current news of the day changes. That is in the first position so it is the first thing that the user sees.

Not perfect, but works....
