Question for IBI:

Will the WHENCE command ever work for files with names over 8 characters long?

Here's the documentation for 5.3 - it does not specify the maximum length of the file name.

Thanks.

It looks like the limitation of the master file name is 64 characters in WF 5.3.

I tried this:

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM SALES
BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE HOLD AS A_VERY_LONG_MASTER_FILE_NAME_12345678901234567890123456789012345
END
WHENCE A_VERY_LONG_MASTER_FILE_NAME_12345678901234567890123456789012345 MASTER

and it works. If I make the master file name one character longer, I receive the error.

Regards
Grzegorz

Hi,

We've added the 64 limit information to the Testing and Debugging a Procedure chapter in the Developing Reporting Applications documentation. It will be included in the next release of this manual.

I just installed 5.3.2 and tested the WHENCE command with a Master greater than 8 chars. in length - it worked.

Thanks.
