I need to create an IF statment, but I'm not sure where to put it in the report. My report is a typical webfocus report where I am using HTML to call reports in htmtable format.

 -HTMLFORM BEGIN
<TABLE CELLPADDING="5" CELLSPACING="5" BORDER="0">
<TR>
<TD WIDTH='75%' ALIGN="CENTER"><H3><FONT FACE=ARIAL>Financial Aid Recipient Persistence <BR> Students with &UNMET_NEED_LOW_GT - &UNMET_NEED_HIGH_LT
Dollars of Unmet Need in &ACAD_YEAR1 - &ACAD_YEAR2 </TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>

Problem: Our parameter for Caucasian is 'WH'. Instead of it saying "WH" in my html section, I need it to say Caucasian. So that it reads in my report

"Caucasian Students with &UNMET_NEED_LOW_GT - &UNMET_NEED_HIGH_LT Dollars of Unmet Need in &ACAD_YEAR1 - &ACAD_YEAR2"

So I can just create a parameter for this using an IF statement, but where to I put the IF statement, and is it using the Dialouge Manager or a SET command?

Brian,

Something like this (assuming the race is stored in an amper variable called &RACE):

-SET &RACE_CODE = DECODE &RACE (
- 'CAUCASIAN' 'WH'
- 'BLACK'     'BL'
- ELSE 'UN'
-);

Then insert !IBI.AMP.RACE_CODE; inside your HTML.

Regards,
Sean

Hi Brian

if I understood do like this in your FEX, it's well explain in the APPLICATION Help file.
Parameters in HTML are :
!IBI.AMP.parameter_name; OR !IBI.GLB.parameter_name;
HOLD HOLD FILE IN HTML :
!IBI.FIL.hold_file_name;

-SET &WH='Caucasian' ;

-HTMLFORM BEGIN

Financial Aid Recipient Persistence !IBI.AMP.WH; Students with !IBI.AMP.UNMET_NEED_LOW_GT; - !IBI.AMP.UNMET_NEED_HIGH_LT;
Dollars of Unmet Need in &ACAD_YEAR1 - &ACAD_YEAR2

Hope it help

I can't get the decode to work. I've tried different scenarios and I always get my ELSE statment of UKNOWN returned.

I'll post the relavent code (the entire report is way too long to post). Also, I haven't had any trouble in the past with calling a parameter in the HTML section by just using ¶meter. But I have changed the calling method for these 2 paramters in particular to follow your instructions:

-SET &E_DESC = DECODE ÐNICITY_CODE (
- 'CAUCASIAN' 'WH'
- 'AFRICAN AMERICAN' 'BL'
- 'ASIAN' 'AS'
- 'NATIVE AMERICAN' 'NA'
- 'HISPANIC' 'HP'
- 'OTHER' 'OT'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

-SET &G_DESC = DECODE &GENDER_CODE (
- 'MALE' 'M'
- 'FEMALE' 'F'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

Brian,

quote:

WHERE SPBPERS_ETHN_CODE EQ ÐNICITY_CODE.(OR(<CAUCASIAN,WH>,<AFRICAN_AMERICAN,BL>,<ASIAN,AS>,<HISPANIC,HP>,<NATIVE_AMERICAN,NA>,<OTHER,OT>)).ETHNICITY_CODE.;

- 'OTHER' 'OT'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

Reverse your DECODE. The value of ÐNICITY_CODE is after the comma; Before the comma is the user selection...

The same applies for &G_DESC...

I tried that again (as I thought about that before), and that doesnt' fix it. I still get UKNOWN returned for the values.

Brian,

In your DECODE, do

-SET &E_DESC = DECODE ÐNICITY_CODE.EVAL (
- 'CAUCASIAN' 'WH'
- 'AFRICAN AMERICAN' 'BL'
- 'ASIAN' 'AS'
- 'NATIVE AMERICAN' 'NA'
- 'HISPANIC' 'HP'
- 'OTHER' 'OT'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

-SET &G_DESC = DECODE &GENDER_CODE.EVAL (
- 'MALE' 'M'
- 'FEMALE' 'F'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

Use .EVAL

Also, DECODE probably won't work because of the (OR; that's a MULTI-SELECT. Need to use Dialogue Manager to figure out the choices...
So, if I choose Caucasian AND Asian, the value equals 'WH' OR 'AS'

DECODE will always be unknown....

Tom

USING THE .EVAL CAUSES THIS ERROR:

 0 ERROR AT OR NEAR LINE 2 IN PROCEDURE ADHOCRQ FOCEXEC *
 (FOC283) IMPROPER USE OF 'GOTO'

WHEN I GET RID OF THE .EVAL, IT JUST RETURNS TO SHOWING 'UKNOWN'.

Brian,

Your variable being decoded (ÐNICITY_CODE) has an odd character in it (and no ampersand). I replace it with the variable &RACE, as in the following, and the result is correct:

-SET &RACE = 'AFRICAN AMERICAN' ;

-SET &E_DESC = DECODE &RACE (
- 'CAUCASIAN' 'WH'
- 'AFRICAN AMERICAN' 'BL'
- 'ASIAN' 'AS'
- 'NATIVE AMERICAN' 'NA'
- 'HISPANIC' 'HP'
- 'OTHER' 'OT'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

-TYPE E_DESC: (&E_DESC)

I get E_DESC: (BL) as the output.

If I'm reading your code correctly, you've got your decode the wrong way around. The value you're trying to decode come first so your decode should read:

-SET &E_DESC = DECODE &RACE (
- 'WH' 'CAUCASIAN'
- 'BL' 'AFRICAN AMERICAN'
- 'AS' 'ASIAN'
- 'NA' 'NATIVE AMERICAN'
- 'HP' 'HISPANIC'
- 'OT' 'OTHER'
- ELSE 'UNKNOWN'
-);

At the moment its looking for a value of CAUCASIAN in &RACE to decode to WH, instead of decoding a value of WH to CAUCASIAN.

Regards

Tewy

I've tried the decode both ways. It doesn't work for me. And the odd character mentioned....well, it just showed up in the forum. It's not in my code.

Anyone else have a good guess?

On the decode issue, I am not a great dialog manager user, so forgive my question here. This appears to be a kill two birds with one stone situation. Brian is the issue one of what displays on the html selection or one of what displays on the report or is it both. You want the customer to select Caucasion or Hispanic and so on which pulls the WH or HP and so on and then displays the 'displayed parameter' in the report generated.

What tool are you using?
