I'm testing out this process with simple car files, but I'm not getting the results I expected. I made a coordinated compound report with the PDF layout painter. When I run the report, I get a PDF that I expect (15 pages that are sorted by country). However, bursting is not creating the desired results. When I burst to email, each user is getting a 15 page report with the Average Cost report on multiple pages for their burst Country. When I burst the report to the libray I'm getting gibberish:

According to IBI

WebFOCUS ReportCaster Release 7.6.0 is the first release that provides
support for coordinated compound report burst distribution in all supported
formats (PDF and DHTML).

Does anyone know if there are any supported formats for Report Caster 7.1?

Can't you just do it the old fashioned way?

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
LENGTH
WIDTH
BY COUNTRY
BY BODYTYPE
BY MODEL
HEADING
"CAR SPECS"
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF OPEN
END

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
COMPUTE MODEL2/A15 = EDIT(MODEL, '999999999999999');
DEALER_COST AS DCOST
RETAIL_COST AS RCOST
BY COUNTRY
BY BODYTYPE
HEADING
"COST DIFFERENCES"
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
END

TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
AVE.DEALER_COST
AVE.RETAIL_COST
BY COUNTRY
BY BODYTYPE
HEADING
"AVERAGE COST"
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT PDF CLOSE
END

Bethany,
I think that you had best go with Prarie's comments, or upgrade to a 76 release where compound bursting is supported.
As far as I know there is no bursting format available in 81 for what you need to do. So either upgrade or split the request so that it creates the correct compound report for each user that needs to receive it. That may result in a lot of extra work, but it will do the trick in your 713 version.

Hope this helps ...

That is the "PDF" code but I don't know if there may be bad characters /data corruption/ etc. For whatever reason, it is not being recognized as a PDF document so it is being displayed as text. Try saving that file to your desktop and see if you can re-open with Adobe Reader and see what you get.

In any case, as was mentioned, 7.6.x is the version that fully supports what you are wanting to do easily. I think I have an example of doing this the "old" way - I'll see if I can find it.

Darin
