Hi,
WHY is the following piece of code NOT WORKING FOR ME?

-SET &DEST='/PATH'||&HOLDNAME||'.ftm';

FILEDEF &HOLDNAME DISK &DEST

TABLE FILE &HOLDNAME
PRINT *
WHERE SOME CONDITIONS
END

-* HERE &HOLDNAME IS A UNIQUE HOLD FILE GENERATED
-*FOR A USER

has anyone tried out something similar?

-Thanks
Kalyan.

Do you have a Master for the file somewhere in the App path?

I had given the path for the master using the holdmast command. MY CODE LOOKS LIKE THIS

FILEDEF HOLDMAST DIR /WEBFOCUS/IBI/APPS/MYAPP/

-SET &DEST='/WEBFOCUS/IBI/APPS/MYAPP/'||&HOLDNAME||'.ftm';

FILEDEF &HOLDNAME DISK &DEST
-REMOTE BEGIN
SQL SQLDBC
SELECT * FORM TABLEA,TABLEB TABLEC
WHERE CONDITIONS;
TABLE FILE SQLOUT
PRINT *
ON TABLE PCHOLD AS &HOLDNAME FORMAT ALPHA
END
-REMOTE END

Now after immediately EXECUTING THE ABOVE PIECE the following when executed

FILEDEF &HOLDNAME DISK &DEST
table file &HOLDNAME
PRINT *
END

IT WORKS !!

But it doesnt work if I try to execute the code in bold alone..even though i can see that the hold file is generated in the DIR specified.. but i dont see a master file there?? could this be the reason? What am i missing?

Try the APP HOLD command. This should create the HOLD file and master in the specified appm directory.

First program:

APP HOLD MYAPP
-RUN

-REMOTE BEGIN
SQL SQLDBC
SELECT * FORM TABLEA,TABLEB TABLEC
WHERE CONDITIONS;
TABLE FILE SQLOUT
PRINT *
ON TABLE PCHOLD AS &HOLDNAME FORMAT ALPHA
END
-REMOTE END

Second program:
FILEDEF &HOLDNAME DISK &DEST
table file &HOLDNAME
PRINT *
END
