Now Required: Signature field
To all Focal Pointers,

Effective as of today (Tuesday, October 28, 2008), the signature field with the following information will be required for all new registrations:

1) What version of WebFOCUS are you using?
2) What platform/operating system are you on? i.e. Windows, Unix, etc.
3) What output format(s) are you trying to create? i.e. Excel, HTML, PDF, etc.

The purpose of the signature field is because many of the questions are related to the version/release of WebFOCUS and platform you are using, providing this information will definitely help the community better understand the problem and therefore get a solution quicker.

For those already registered and approved but still missing the signature field, please kindly go into your profile and update your signature as soon as possible.

For those already registered but did not get approved before October 24th, please send your signature info (and other required info, if asked) to focalpoint@ibi.com before Thursday, October 30, 2008. Provided no response is heard on or before this coming Thursday, your profile will be deleted from the system and you will need to re-register.

Moving forward, new registrations missing the proper signature information will not be approved.
The process will be:
- After you are registered, we will send you a reminder email stating what required information is missing from you, e.g. name, company, occupation, and/or signature field, then will give you one week to respond.
- If we still do not hear from you in the dedicated period of time (indicated in the reminder email as well), your registration will be deleted and thereafter you will need to re-register.

Focal Point has been a growing and great resource for help, idea sharing, and many others. I would like say thank you to all guru’s endless effort and help, as well as everyone’s cooperation and understanding. As always, questions, suggestions, comments, and ideas are always welcome! Please feel free to send Kathleen Butler or myself a private message.

Cheers,

Kerry

I updated my profile, but my signature has not changed. Somehow, I had WebFOCUS 6.4.2 ... my profile says WebFocus 7.6.9. Help!

Judy,

It's actually a little misleading when we say "profile"!

The part of the profile you probably updated (which I haven't updated in quite a while!):

This information is only displayed when someone looks at your profile.

You also need to update the "Signature", which is what is displayed in your posts:

(I use fancy-schamsy HTML but you definitely don't need to)

Cheers,

Francis

Part of the problem is that the 'Signature' profile field is buried way down within Focal Point. Requiring one to find the right place to click to get to ones Profile (GO ??), then clicking on the View/Edit Complete Profile link, and scrolling down a page or two to find it.
And it's further confused with separate profile fields covering the info asked for in the Signature field.

So, it might be a good idea to clean up the user interface issues with the Signature info before, or coincident with making it required.

Note that I have no problem with the need for good WF version/platform info in Focal Point users signatures, just that it should be relatively easy to find the way to get it in there. It really isn't now.

Dave

I won't know until I send this if my signature has been updated. Maybe there was a time delay?

I see what you mean. I needed to scroll down my text box where my signature is. I was scrolling down the form after the Location.

It is confusing and redundant to have to put that same info below in the actual signature box.

Judy, this thread will probably clear up the problem for everyone else that has a problem with the confusing profile page.

Cheers,

Francis

Francis,

I don't think that just having an explanation of how to find the deeply buried signature field in this post is adequate.

For one, it will quickly scroll down the list of posts and only be accessable with a search.

Most people that need to know this info are new users, not yet familiar with the forum.

Plus we all know that a lot of users don't use search, until they get their hands slapped a little Smiler

And I always advocate root cause fixes, not workarounds !

Dave,

While someone from I.B.I. gets the makers of this forum software to make changes to the profile page, we can, at least, refer to this posting ( Now Required: Signature field ) when we ask new members to update their profile.

Cheers,

Francis
